You are no doubt aware that George Zimmerman is the killer in the Trayvon Martin case. It was told by him that Martin came closer to him, resting his hand on the waist. That is nearly a good enough reason to excuse the shooting. African Americans that come walking towards you with a hidden hand often lead to a person pulling their own gun, if available.
His black color doesn't make any difference. If a young Caucasian kid who appeared to be involved in gangs Oversized clothes, etc. began to walk in Zimmerman's direction taking the same actions, he would most likely had the same reaction and fired his gun. However, we cannot blame Martin for this, because this is how we tell our children "cool" people should act. The "gangsta look" is popular because its pumped in the media.
Zimmerman confronted the youth, who felt threatened and attacked. Zimmerman only shot Martin in self-defence. He is now considered a hero in some circles. One should be able to shoot someone who goes after them in this manner. Being charged with murder should never enter as a worry when someone is defending themselves from their attacker.
What if a teenager attacked you? Wouldn't you rather defend yourself and stop the abuse you are receiving. There's no question that any intelligent person would do that as well; since Trayvon Martin has been killed, he can never attack you. Some people may feel that the Zimmerman shooting of Martin made their neighborhood safer. The incident could make other young so-called "thugs" think twice before committing a crime in that neighborhood, knowing that George Zimmerman is on the neighborhood watch.
It is thought by a lot of people that Zimmerman shot Martin because of the color of his skin and should therefore be arrested, but this is not the correct way to think. If you really thought your attacker had a gun, wouldn't you want to be the one to pull the trigger first, and so color doesn't matter when you get into this type of situation. If you act rashly, you're going to have to face the consequences.
Obviously, because the dead man is black the race card is being played in a big way. All colors from purple to white cease to exist when adrenaline activates during the situation. If it had been a white teen who was murdered, there would be riots in the streets. George Zimmerman has already been judged guilty by the public, because the police failed to do their job in the first place. Rather than punish the victim of a crime for using a gun in self-defense, we should regard him as a model for victims everywhere.
