Perhaps you have considered there might be a correlation between the sort of vacation folks take and also the level of business mindset they posses?

It's easier now than in the past to hop on a plane and go anywhere the whole world we wish. A lot of people may well be constrained in the kind of vacation they're able to choose, because of other commitments or just the cost involved. Even so many people are now in a fortunate position where they're able to take any kind of vacation they want.

If Money Happened to be no Object

If we remove any limits imposed by cost and commitments and presume people can take any vacation they want, what is the correlation regarding the sort of vacation that they choose as well as the standard of entrepreneur state of mind they posses? I believe that maybe there is one.

I really don't just mean wealthy people that choose certain exotic vacations simply because that's pretty obvious and won't teach us much. I am talking about the average Joe tending to have restful vacations in sunny locations and business owners tending to take tougher vacations involving adventure and discovery.

Whenever we use somebody such as Sir Richard Branson (on the list of the UKs best entrepreneurs) by way of example. I am sure he takes trips on his own Necker Island, but he's most famous for his numerous ventures. He's made several world record efforts involving hot air balloon flights around the world and voyaging across seas in his custom vessels.

For many people this type of adventure is outside of our spending budgets however, for lots of people even if they could afford such journeys they'd still decide not to risk their own lives this way and choose to stick with seaside vacations instead.

Does a Business Frame of Mind Promote Adventure?

The key point here is that there must be a link between whatever we decide to do with our vacations and the level of business state of mind we have.

That still raises the question, does possessing an entrepreneur frame of mind cause you to be adventurous or does becoming adventurous promote a business mindset? That's tricky to answer but my prediction is that the two characteristics are very similar and the man who has one will often have the other also.

Using Me Just as One Example

Hence, what helped me think about this kind of obscure topic to write about? I'll use me personally by way of example. Until the past few years I'd been the person who always used up my time for taking relaxing holidays in sunny locations.

As I looked back on my vacations recently I noticed a structure. In 2005 one of my holidays was very much different to others I'd taken in previous times. I took a plane to Phoenix, United States with only a single night booked in a hotel room, hired a car and booked an airplane to England a little while later over 2000 miles away from San-Francisco airport. In comparison with my usual bundle trips, for me to drive 2000 miles throughout the USA with just one nights room booked with no particular route organized was something very different for me.

The subsequent year my primary vacation was a safari in Kenya. Once again, this has been worlds apart from my normal type of vacation.

One year later I chose to walk 192 miles through the UK in eleven days. The walk was from the West coast towards the East coastline, spanning three national parks. As many of you know I've just returned from doing the very same walk again, 3 years later and believe me it is still a good challenge.

So what on earth drove my change in vacation choice, from relaxing to daring? All I can say is that this coincided nearly exactly with my change in frame of mind towards a business mindset. This tends to make me think that the two were related, but what one drove the other I can't be sure.

Does Your Entrepreneur Attitude Impact Your Holidays?

What could be a helpful exercise for you to do now could be to look at your choices of vacation in the past and present. Then compare them along with your degree of business mindset right at that moment. Do you see a pattern a lot like what I have recognized in myself personally?
