Many college students want to start looking for a job as soon as they start their college career. However, it would be wise to wait a semester and see how your grades turn out before you make the decision to get a job as a new job will take hours away from studying.

If possible, buy your textbooks used. The material is exactly the same as in new books, and you may even have the bonus of getting a book that was used by a student who highlighted passages that will help you in your studies. As long as you take care of the book, you can still resell used books just as you would sell back new ones.

When studying for final exams, study with a partner. Making a date to study with a classmate will make it more likely for you to study hard. Furthermore, you can both motivate each other. Studying with a buddy will keep you on track and is the most effective method for achieving good grades.

Make sure that you are getting plenty of sleep. Try not to stay up too late, even if you are studying. Make sure that you are getting enough sleep at, roughly, the same time every night. Try to stick to a schedule. If your sleep patterns are too erratic, it could seriously hurt your performance in class.

Take advantage of activities and facilities available on your college's campus. Many campuses offer a variety of free and inexpensive events for students, from concerts to movie showings. They also have fitness centers, pools, and other recreational facilities. You can also join clubs or groups centered around your hobbies, religion, and more.

Keep a few things in your room or apartment that are healthy, cheap and easy to eat. This will significantly cut down on late-night fast food runs and will save you money as a result. Peanut butter, yogurt and bagels are all good choices. They also do not have as many calories as fried chicken or hamburgers.

Use statistics to narrow down your college choices, but not to make the final decision. The right college for you is a good match to you personally, not a prize that you win. Never select a school because a lot of your friends are going there, nor because it holds a number one position on some published list. Only a visit to the campus can really tell you if it is right.

Avoid studying for big college exams the night before by taking in a lot of caffeine or other stimulants. While these things can keep you up and able to study for longer, they will make you very tired in the morning. After using chemical stimulants for a while, you will need more and more and that can be damaging to your overall physical and mental health.
