The Kubelwagen is often translated by many people as bucket car mainly because of its physical appearance. It is like a metal tub on wheels. It is a light military vehicle that was used during world war 2. It is mainly based on the Volkswagen Beetle that was created before it.
It is commonly known as type 82 among military people. It is basically created for the Germans it was drafted and built in Germany. It is an inexpensive design and a lightweight vehicle for transporting. It can be operated on the road or during extreme conditions, off the road. Its draft was based on a lot of vehicles designs.
The inventor worked extremely hard to make the prototype ready just after few months. The people realized then that the model is not enough to bring all the military difficulties. They designed it simple to guarantee and effective off the road application. Many helped out to create the body.
The developmental testing by the military men began after the presentation of the initial design. Despite the lack of four wheel drive, the vehicle was competent at maneuvering over rough road. The project was later on given more time for more development. The capabilities were improved including its functions to fully answer the needs of the military.
Another set of development was done after years. They advanced the model by redesigning the body and then manufacture other models that were tested in preparation for invasion. Despite the satisfaction, some demanded for other alterations to be achieved. They minimized the speed in order to adjust to the march of the soldiers.
The off road capability was soon developed. They gave higher ground clearance at once. The wheels and the dampers are all revised. There are countless of modifications to be executed and then, specifications were all completed. The model was then named type 82.
The full scale production of the vehicle started after the year it was invented as soon as the factories were operational. During this time, no major changes took place before the end of the production. Only little modifications are introduced and implemented. The unnecessary parts were removed and some parts are reinforced. It was then referred as type 86.
The engines were changed but the performance and capability are still the same with the type 82. So, some of the designs were not totally implemented. It was also produced after the war which had proven itself to be useful, durable and reliable. The German military took the delivery of the first set, they then test the vehicles on and off the road in snow to test its capability. They used vehicles with four wheels as their reference point.
Many were greatly amazed with the achievement of Kubelwagen. It was beyond their expectations and true enough, it performed well more than the rest of the models. People were happy especially those who made it happened. The models are good in every test and because of the remarkable features, the demand increased. Some of them are of course the light weight and then its body design that can slide easily with any surface.
