When it comes to God, there are a number of different aspects according to the Christian faith. For example, the Supreme Being in the minds of Christians can refer to God The Father, Jesus, the Son of God or Holy Spirit. As such, it can often be confusing when other belief systems hold different aspects and names for the divine.

Theologians, scientists and philosophers often use the term God as defined by the Christian faith. While this is the case, philosophers may not see the term as being related to a higher power. In other cases, terms such as God the Father, Universe and others are substituted.

One area in which the term Source or Universe is among those known as Deists. For, these individuals often believe in a number of different deities, or at the very least worship God as a deity. In most areas, those whom worship a multitude of deities are considered to be heathens or pagans by those of the Christian faith. Whereas, in some cases, there are even some pagans whom also worship the Creator of the Universe and hold that being above others.

In most areas, paganism is often seen as a cult whether those involved are practicing witchcraft or otherwise. For, while most Catholic and Christian rituals were handed down from ancient pagan traditions, many in the faith often see those involved in the practice as doing the work of Satan or the devil. Whereas, those involved often believe that Wicca and other branches of paganism are actually still the oldest religions known to man.

In the well known religious sects, the term is used by a number of different traditions. In Islam, scholars use the term to refer to Allah which is Arabic for God. While in Sikhism the term related to the higher power is that of Wahequru, which means One God. In the Jewish tradition, there are multiple names for God though the most familiar and often used is that of YHWH which is often pronounced as Yahweh.

Whether one believes in a higher power or otherwise is a personal choice regardless of where one resides. Although, the debate as to the existence of God remains active around the world. In fact, so much so that there are still countries around the world which ban the worship of God in any form or fashion.

Philosophers and scientists often hold different beliefs with regard to religion than most theologians. For, most all theologians believe in a higher power, be that God, Source, Universe or by another name based solely on faith. Whereas, most philosophers work to explore the possibility of the existence of God though do not necessarily believe in the reality of same.

Definitions and positions related to a higher power can often be positive or negative in nature. Atheism, while some believe is a religion of non-belief, and Theism, which refers to belief are both outside the Christian faith. While others believe these as well as Gnosticism and agnosticism are all part and parcel to some aspect of a religious or spiritual path.
