When it comes to dieting, most people find sweet and salty foods the hardest to give up. For some, it can take a certain amount of bravery to try dietary alternatives. In the past, a lot of dietetic versions of guilty pleasures tasted like a science experiment gone wrong. While that caloric and fat content were on the lower side, so was being palatable. However, many things like dairy free whipped cream have come a long way.

At one time, plant diets seemed only right for rabbits. With no flavor and less variety, it is no wonder that anyone who followed the old way of going vegetarian lost weight quickly. However, it seems like only a handful of people could make this way of eating a lifestyle.

Foods made from plants today mimic a lot of foods made from animal products. The look, taste, and texture can fool just about anyone. These recipes are so good that many carnivores have happily converted to vegetarianism. When meals taste good, it makes dieting a lot easier and better for overall health. Making a lifetime commitment to eating right is the best way to maintain a proportionate body weight.

Layered desserts are also a big hit with those who do not like to spend a lot of time in preparation mode. Any type of cream may go between cake slices, pudding, a fruit mixture, or a combination of everything that looks and tastes good. Even if a person has bananas that have turned brown, these may be chopped and mixed in with a cup or two of whipped cream to make an exciting middle layer.

Busy people can also take advantage of some shortcuts that do not involve going to a bakery or buying a dessert kit. Sliced fruit in a jar with juice or light sweetener can be used as a topping for cake or pie filling. Plain white bread products that have gone stale make the best quick pudding, Just mix with butter, eggs, fruit, and spices and bake in a heated oven until brown. Once cooled, it may be topped with ice cream, whipped cream, bourbon or rum sauce.

For those who have leftover whipped cream, it can be made into a faux ice cream popsicle. Just add a packet of flavored gelatin or hot cocoa mix and stir until even. Place inside small containers that can withstand extreme cold. If there are no popsicle sticks to use, pouring inside a space ice tray with toothpicks is a good idea. Thaw slightly for softness or eat right out of the freezer.

Besides using cream to top cakes, puddings, and pies, these can also be enjoyed alone. One way is to make a low fat frozen treat like mock cream popsicles. This can be achieved by mixing in a flavored gelatin packet and stirring to desired consistency. Then place into individual containers before placing inside the freezer. While plain nondairy milk products cannot be frozen, these will keep for up to two months.

For those who do not care for baking but love their sweets can make this treat that is certain to take care of chocolate cravings. Mix a packet of reduced calorie hot chocolate or cocoa powder and place inside individual containers. Let stiffen or freeze for two hours. If a person wants to add variety, mashed bananas will work also.
