Unlike traditional comedy in which minorities are often attacked, BIG strives to include the LGBTQ+ community, military members, mentally and physically challenged individuals, senior citizens, veterans and people of color in positive rather than negative connotations during performances. As such, the group aims to train actors and comedians to create art which is more appropriate and respectful while at the university, attending workshops and later in life.
There are three different areas and programs provided by the organization. For example, increasing access to performances, programs and scholarships in Baltimore is one aspect. In this case, the group works to facilitate and communicate with performers and students to raise awareness of diversity, equity, inclusion and empathy.
Building bridges and creating alliances is the second of the three programs. In this area, the group works with community organizations, corporations and colleges to create concepts which will lead to better relationships between these and other businesses and organizations in the community. Whereas, the last focuses on performance opportunities, talent recognition and mentorship within the BIG organization.
Ultimately, the goal of all these programs, performance art, performances and workshops provided by the group is to provide knowledge, insight and information related to equal rights.
