Michigan has made it a requirement for professionals to pass certifications for the protection and benefit of public health. Under Rule 1405, it states the qualifications for backflow preventers, testing, and corrections. It is mandated to be certified backflow tester Michigan by the Department of EGLE in accordance with ASSE Standard 5110.

Certifications are under the supervision of American Society of Safety Engineers made to ensure that companies and individuals know the systems for mechanical and plumbing areas. These systems promote improvements, safety, and performance for public awareness. Professionals are certified under this third party organization for areas such as rainwater harvest, backflow prevention, and infection control.

To qualify for their backflow prevention certification, professionals are required to have at least five years of experience in working with it. This is because they will undergo forty hours of training courses before they do the written and oral exams. Their proficiency in knowledge and skills operations will be tested during the exams. Their proctors are professionals approved by ASSE.

It is important to note that tasks involved in cross connection control are only done by qualified backflow prevention assembly professionals. The tasks are there in order to physically connect two separate systems. An example of this is the connection in a system containing portable water and another containing water of questionable safety. This is the reason of the state government of Michigan in trusting the professionals who passed the ASSE course and exams.

For exams, there are differences when taking it for the first time and recertification. For the former, the written exam consists of one hundred questions. In the practical exam, they must demonstrate the field testing successfully. The procedures that will be demonstrated are assembly of pressure and spill resistant vacuum breaker, double check valve, and pressure principle.

Their similarity meanwhile lies in practical exams. Here, both exam takers have to demonstrate their proficiency in field testing. Vacuum breakers have to be assembled successfully in terms of being spill resistant and holding pressure. In relation, they also must assemble pressure principles, and double check valves.

Do remember that the certification aims to protect the supply of water by increasing qualified professionals. They created a program wherein individuals can overcome challenges to get credentials from standards. Surveying, repairing, and assembling are the enhanced skills they can gain. In effect, service companies will see their credibility and employability.

They can enroll for training course in ASSE approved schools. Currently, there are fourteen schools that accept applications for ASSE Certification 5110 across the state. The individuals can look for a school closest to them when they visit the website. Though, they do need to pass their applications at least two weeks prior for the school to prepare the right amount of source materials.

At the end, Michigan State and its water supply are the ones benefited from this. What is good about the industry is that standards are regulated strictly by governing bodies such as the government and the ASSE. Aside from them, professionals also gain income from being an independent consultant or an established company. In this age of digitization and information technology, it is easy for customers to find and contact them.
