State secrecy was experienced some years back, but not today. Many countries have constitutions which call for an open government, which means they have the right to access any information about the different proceedings of the leaders. Government transparency allows the people to know what they are doing, and this is necessary to allow public oversight and openness.

All thanks to enlightenment, most people now have the strong voice and confidence to offer checks and balances to leadership they deem unfit. Different debates have been tabled to ensure the required and expected openness and transparency from the leaders is realized. Unlike before, when the people had no such right, today they have the luxury of keeping up with government-proceedings for the necessary oversight.

More and more democratic reforms hit different states and backgrounds. The democratic wave kept on spreading, and eventually, people realized they have a strong voice which is backed up by their constitution. With quite democratic societies today, the governments have indeed opened up their door for the people to access the information they need through different ways such as media.

Of course, states have to keep some details away from the public. When some data is leaked, it can pave way for security threats, which will be a problem to both the innocent and guilty people. Some people are not patriotic, and when they get access to vital data that gives them a loophole to take the leadership down, then they can do so without hesitation, thus the need to regulate and limit what the masses can know.

Terrorism has hit most countries both in Africa and other continents across the globe. This happens when the valid details get into the hands of the wrong people. For some reason, it can be justified at this point why some details have to remain classified. When the attacks happen, many people lose lives, and a lot of property damaged. This needs to be prevented by taking the necessary security measures through investigations and security enforcement.

The government has all the machinery to track down criminal activities and possibly prevent them from happening. They have come up with suitable agents who work undercover to unravel criminal puzzles and dens. When they get to the bottom levels of society where most of these activities are usually planned, they may seem ordinary people when in real sense, and they are agents of the investigating-government bodies.

Leadership ought to be accountable. This can only happen when the people know what is being done. You cannot push certain leaders conduct their roles and duties when you do not have the track of their moves. When they realize they are being watched, they would mostly improve their operations and functionality to ensure they uphold their duties legally and free from corruption.

The members of the public have a right to be consulted with. This enables them to participate in ruling their country the right way. When proposing some changes and coming up with new ideas, the people ought to be notified as well and their participation and views respected. This leads to a happy country full of people who are satisfied and believe in their systems.
